Partners
The DSET is working with Inserm Unit 625 and Rennes 1 University (notification of and response to chemical and infectious agents unit) in the project to create the Institut de Recherche Santé-Environnement -Travail (IRSET – Environmental and Occupational Health Research Institute), which works closely with INERIS.Strategic objectives
- Provide high level education to meet the needs of managers and employees in the environmental health and safety system at national and international level
- Organise competitive research, at international level, into the environment and workplace risks and prevention, drawing on all relevant disciplines (environmental measurement systems, exposure science, epidemiology, toxicology, risk evaluation and operational environmental health engineering research into risk control)
- Provide evaluation services to guide public policies on risks related to the general environment and work.

Missions
There is concern about environmental health risks which, despite the progress achieved over recent years, still cause significant, indiscriminate morbidity and mortality. Controlling such risks calls for considerable commitment on the part of state authorities as well as financial and social organisations. The DSET will help to identify these risks, determine their sources, quantify them, evaluate their distribution and propose ways of preventing them. It will also provide training for environmental and occupational health and safety managers and employees in the public and private sectors.Scope
The DEST is a department of the EHESP that works closely with the other departments of the EHESP, in particular through the interdisciplinary centres.
It works very closely with the EHESP’s environmental measurement centre, LERES, laboratory for study and research into the environment and health.
It works in close collaboration with several other higher education establishments to create and develop a range of courses in the environmental and occupational health field (masters, environmental health courses for EHESP engineers).
It is working closely with the other partners of IRSET to set up one of France’s largest interdisciplinary environmental and occupational health research centres with international contacts.
