Objectives and missions

The Department of Epidemiology aims to be a teaching and research unit of excellence, reflecting the strength of its faculty, the novelty and high-quality of its partners, the relevance of its research, the applicability of its teaching and service for improving the public health in France.

Why a Department of Epidemiology at EHESP?

Epidemiology is a very large field as well as clinical research and the department has been created to give it visibility and to allow collaboration between the diverse specialists and their students.

For example infectious diseases once considered as outside the chronic disease are becoming a new area for research for cardiovascular disease and cancer; mental health is pertinent in the chronic disease fields due to the importance of physical and mental health comorbidity but in area such as epidemic mental health aspects are important too.

Clinical research is an essential branch of epidemiological through the evaluative epidemiology that links to clinical fields and patients population in each domain.

The department should act as a fertilizer to support emerging creative insides in epidemiology by inclusion on the diverse fields into unique surveys allowing the development of health indicators covering the diverse aspects of health: physical, mental, preventive and curative.
