A seroprevalence study, SéroGrippeHebdo, is being carried out among pregnant women to estimate the proportion of young adults who have been infected since the start of the A (H1N1) influenza pandemic. This study is being undertaken by:
- the Emerging Virus Unit of Aix-Marseille 2 University in collaboration with the EHESP (promoter),
- the Institut de Veille Sanitaire (InVS – Public Health Surveillance Institute),
- the Institut de Microbiologie et Maladies Infectieuses (IMMI – Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Institute).
Doctors and pharmacists / biologists in the Réseau de Biologie Moléculaire Libérale (RBML – Molecular Biology Network), an association of private medical laboratory groups present all over France, as well as independent medical laboratories, are taking part in this study.
Purpose of the study
Estimate and monitor the seroprevalence of antibodies to the new A (H1N1) 2009 influenza virus in pregnant women during the first three months of pregnancy throughout the course of the epidemic.
Method
Toxoplasmosis tests on a sample of women are carried out each week by the participating biological analysis laboratories. The analyses are carried out using a haemagglutination inhibition test and the results are sent each week to the EHESP and InVS.
There is a weekly epidemiological bulletin on the InVS website showing the situation regarding the A (H1N1) influenza virus in France and world-wide. Go to the InVS website.
