Women, Power and Cancer: A Lancet Commission

Présentation en anglais – Webinar in English.

This webinar presents the key findings of the 2023 Lancet Commission on Women, Power and Cancer, applying an intersectional feminist lens to examine how gender shapes women’s experiences of cancer, as patients, caregivers, health workers, and policy actors. It explores asymmetries of power in three domains: decision-making, knowledge production, and economics, with particular attention to the financial burden cancer imposes on women. We will discuss how structural determinants intersect with gender to produce inequitable cancer outcomes, and why these inequities matter for public health policy.

Intervenant(e)s : Nirmala Bhoo-Pathy, Professor of Public Health and Clinical Epidemiology Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Drawing on findings from the literature and from recent research projects, this webinar aims to highlight the tensions between equity, efficiency, and sustainability, and to identify possible ways to address them from a health policy and health economics perspective. The aim is to critically discuss how to ensure more resilient, inclusive and equitable healthcare systems in Italy and across Europe.

Intervenant(e)s : Michele Castelli, Associate Professor in Political Science, Department of Statistics and Quantitative Methods, University of Milano-Bicocca, Milan, Italy.
