The EHESP’s original purpose was to train managers and administrative personnel in public and private health and welfare services or establishments. It undertakes research where the professions represent the critical variable in the health production process.
Although the French administration is well known for its skills in defining standards, and rules and regulations, not enough use is made of scientific works for organising its management. A more critical approach is required, professional procedures should be examined and practices reappraised.
In the medium term, this should lead to the creation of a programme for training managerial personnel in the application of scientific knowledge. This approach extends beyond the public sector as the EHESP provides courses for students outside this framework, in particular Health Engineers.
Participation in university courses in the form of partnerships also broadens the scope of the EHESP.
