The EHESP has for a long time been committed to a policy in favour of accessibility for all, in order to promote the reception, participation and autonomy at the school for disabled people. Its policy enters into the context of the French equal opportunities act of 11 February 2005, known as the disability law. The principle of equality implies that places of welcome, teaching and work, circulation spaces and school equipment and services are easily accessible for all.

Disabled consultants for staff and students

The EHESP decided to adopt an exemplary disability policy in favour of its staff and students by setting up a multi annual disability master plan. In February 2017, the EHESP’s board of directors approved the main areas of the disability policy and the school’s master plan.

The disability policy is co-managed by the Studies Division (Direction des Etudes – DE) and the Human Resources Division (HRD) to more effectively meet the specific needs of the two main target audiences: the school’s staff and EHESP’s students. To this effect, a disability correspondent and consultant were appointed in these divisions:

  • HRD disability correspondent

He or she manages the school’s agents participating in the recruitment and support of disabled staff. He or she attempts to anticipate and to resolve concerns relating mainly to job maintenance and adaptation.

  • Course Management disability consultant

He or she manages students and the EHESP’s lecturers and concerns mainly relating to teaching adjustments. He or she attempts to alert training managers, and monitor the placement and integration of students.

In liaison with all school staff, the disability consultants also support students in their requests for adaptation of teaching and examinations, and handle individual situations related to accessibility issues (accommodation, catering etc.).

Adapted facilities meeting accessibility requirements

At the same time, significant development work has been carried out over the last few years, to bring the EHESP into compliance with accessibility requirements for public buildings (Établissements recevant du public – ERP) since September 2017. The building rehabilitation programme provides access for all kinds of disability (sensory and motor) to all buildings, and makes the premises suitable for autonomous use by agents, pupils, lecturers, visitors and makes it possible to achieve a consistent mobility chain.

All of these actions contribute to providing a welcoming, trusting environment, favourable to the development of lasting relations of exchange within the campus.
