A gap year is a period during which a student, enrolled on an initial higher education course, temporarily suspends their studies to acquire professional or personal experience, either on their own initiative or within a host organisation in France or abroad.
This programme, which lasts 6 months or 1 year maximum, must be taken on the student’s initiative and can serve:
- to follow training that differs from initial training,
- as work experience,
- as a commitment to voluntary work or civic service,
- as a business creation project as student entrepreneur,
- to develop a personal project.
