EHESP participates in this Master’s program as the partner of Université de Technologie de Compiègne (UTC), (Conférence des Grandes Ecoles) which aims to offer training and access to very high-level expertise in the field of biomedical equipment and its in-hospital management.
Objectives
- To offer advanced specialist skills as biomedical hospital engineers (IBMH) to newly-qualified young people and professionals seeking to change orientation
- To acquire expertise, and encourage a well-informed vision of the role of health technologies in hospitals of the future
Training Description and Programme
Teaching Method
The Post-Master’s programme in biomedical equipment prepares engineers to become the trusted colleagues of doctors, paramedics and hospital decision makers faced with the manufacturers of biomedical equipment, and to take on the key missions of the IBMH department in a context of constant innovation:
- Purchasing advice for new equipment, including inventory of needs expressed by medical departments, knowledge of the industrial offer, study of opportunities to acquire new technologies, participation in the design of new services, drawing up of specifications and setting up calls for tenders on public markets, the definition of conditions for the smooth running of equipment (guarantee, maintenance conditions and training of technicians, etc.)
- Management of the stock of equipment installed: this is a matter or providing maintenance in the broadest sense, both internally with the establishment’s technical team, and externally, including development, and monitoring of contracts with companies, as well as quality control, and safety.
- User Training.
- Participation in applied research.
Theoretical teaching and case studies
More than 150 speakers, academics, doctors, experienced engineers, hospital directors, and industrial players are engaged in the different teaching units, providing a wide and complementary range of perspectives on technological issues. The theoretical teaching is grouped together in themed sessions lasting a few days. A large amount of practical work and visits to both healthcare establishments and factories serve to complete the theoretical program. Throughout these sessions, students are putting into practice what they have learnt from case studies related to existing and future problems.
Professional Thesis
This thesis must address a concrete problematic, combining both analysis and implementation. The subjects will cover medical technology, as well as the associated economic, organisational and medical aspects, which are often of vital importance to the hospital. The work for this thesis will be done throughout the program, alongside the placement, culminating in the writing of a dissertation and an oral presentation. The best theses will be published as articles in a scientific journal.

- Hospital engineers currently in post seeking to specialize and be promoted within their establishment
- Recently-qualified engineers seeking a career as biomedical engineers in a healthcare establishment or health-related institution
- Engineers in search of professional reorientation

Pre-requisites
- Engineering degree accredited by the French Commission des Titres d’Ingénieur
- Master 2 (DEA, DESS, etc.)
- Scientific PhD
- Foreign equivalent of the above-mentioned qualifications
